After a Crown or a Bridge

To foster healing after installing a crown or a bridge, please take the following precautions. However, bear in mind that some discomfort after treatment is normal.

A crown or a bridge can be installed in one or two appointments. Thanks to CEREC technology, highly attractive bridges and crowns can be designed and installed for most of our patients in just one appointment!

If two visits are required, we will take an impression of the teeth to be replaced and then install temporary crowns or bridges to protect your teeth until the replacements are ready. If necessary, you will take medication as recommended by our team.

Avoid

  • Drinking hot beverages under the effects of anesthesia.
  • Eating sticky or hard foods (e.g. chewing gum, candy).

Eating

  • Chew on the opposite side.

From the Next Day to Complete Healing

  • Brush your teeth as usual and floss carefully to avoid dislodging the temporary crown.
  • If a temporary crown comes loose, it is vital that you return to the clinic to have it cemented in place it again. This prevents the other teeth from moving and keeps soft tissue in place, all of which facilitates installation of the new tooth.

Also bear in mind that a certain adjustment period is necessary after a new crown is installed. During this period, you may feel some sensitivity in reaction to temperature variations or when chewing hard foods. However, you should be comfortable when you close your mouth completely. Otherwise, an occlusion adjustment will be necessary. Please drop by the clinic immediately to correct the problem.

If you experience persisting pain or have any questions, please call us at 514-376-4911.
